Captain Cavegirl Grows Up

When Sarah was little Pat gave her the nickname Captain Cavegirl. My sweet girl has never been what you would call delicate. She has always been physically tough and strong, and we used to laugh and say that when she is ready for a husband she would club one and bring him home lol.

That has changed. She is still strong and athletic (she learned to water ski on her first try last week), but she also loves to shop, wear jewelry and just went to her 8th grade formal dance. Much to Pat's relief it was not a boy/girl dance, and I'm not sure how formal it was - I think the girls dressed up more than the boys. Sarah was super excited about it though. We shopped for the perfect dress and she looked so beautiful in it. She got ready here so I could take a few pictures and then went to a friend's house to finish getting ready. After the dance Pat took the girls for milkshakes and then we had a sleepover here. They had a wonderful time and Pat remarked that Captain Cavegirl has grown up. After shopping with her for swimsuits all day yesterday, I concur. Lucky for us she is still sweet as ever and we really are blessed to have such a wonderful kid.

Here she is before the dance.

In other news, the kids are almost done with school and very excited for summer. Sarah has her first babysitting job - she will be watching our neighbor's kids while our neighbor is home but working, 3 days a week for just a few hours each day. I think it is the perfect transition into babysitting. She is great with kids and neighbors have been asking if she can babysit but I've been a little nervous about it. I think this is the perfect way to see how it goes. Sam is very excited about Boy Scout camp this summer and is making great strides in earning his merit badges and getting closer to his goal of becoming an Eagle Scout. Pat is busy with work and so am I.

I have had a chance to finish a few scrapbook pages though so I thought I would share them.

I did these two for Webster's Pages using the new Sweet as Cherry Pie line:

Pat and I just celebrated our 20 year anniversary of our meeting, which made me want to  scrap one of our wedding pictures:

Week in Review

Monday - Sam's birthday! He requested a giant cupcake instead of a regular cake. No fancy decorating but he seemed to like it!

Sam cake 2

Tuesday - Took pictures of Phoenix before her grooming appointment on Wednesday. I love her hair long but it is getting too warm for her to be comfortable so off it goes. Anyway, I saw this tiara (hard to see on a white dog but it says diva) somewhere and picked it up because it made me laugh. Just perfect for my spoiled dog!

Wednesday and Thursday - busy working! We have such fun things going on at the Webster's Pages site - including some amazing guest designers, a big contest, a chat on Tuesday with peaks of our new line, and much more.

Friday - Went to the Liberty Antique Festival. My friend Karen and I had planned to go but she was unable to because of an illness in her family. I decided to go on my own, and was glad I did. I love looking through the booths, trying to find little treasures. My favorite find was this very cool measuring cup set. It has bird handles and stacks up to form a hive - too cute! I still need to clean it but wanted to share a peek of it.

I also got these cute plates:

the smallest toilet pin cube I have ever seen:

a bunch of vintage trims:

and a darling pocket game board and journal:

Saturday - Sarah and Sam joined me to go to the Lazy Days festival. This is an arts and crafts festival held twice a year in my town. In Spring it is held in the park that backs up to my neighborhood so we just walk over to take a look at everything. Didn't buy anything but it was a beautiful morning out with the kids.

After that, Sarah and I decided we would try to get some last minute trims. We both wound up cutting about 3 inches off! Here we are with our new cuts (up against our newly apple green kitchen wall):

New haircuts

The kids both had sleepovers so Pat and I had our first night out in 3 years! We went out to dinner at the Angus Barn which is a steak place near us. Of course I had chicken but Pat had lots of seafood and steak so he was a happy camper. Unfortunately he couldn't get out of a conference call so our night was cut short, but at least we had a few hours.

Sunday - Pat took the kids on the boat so I am just catching up on stuff.

So there you have it our week in review! Thanks for stopping by. Hope you have a good week!

Catching Up

All is quiet here...the kids are back to school after Spring Break, Pat is at work and the only sound is Phoenix breathing and the computer humming along. Last weekend we went to Baltimore where we enjoyed a wonderful visit with my husband's sister and their new puppy. It was our first time taking Phoenix to someone's house which also meant her first time staying with another dog. She did great! On the way back we stopped and saw a good friend that we do not see nearly enough. I wish we could have stayed longer, but Pat had to get back to work and so did I. I am getting back into the groove of working but it was trickier last week with the kids home - it all worked out though. This past Easter weekend was quiet as we finished stripping the wallpaper from our kitchen. I am so excited to paint it! I have a long list of things I need to do now that the kids are back in school, but I wanted to post these pictures (Colleen I promise I am sending copies soon). These are a few favorite pictures from last weekend.

Exciting News

Now that this has been officially announced I am very excited to share it here. I have taken a job at Webster's Pages as their Business Development Manager. I will be working on developing new products and finding new ways to share their beautiful products with the scrapping world.

I thought I would share how I became involved with Webster's Pages. I first saw their products at some of my favorite online stores, but I couldn't find one store that carried everything, and I really wanted to try it all! Yep it was love at first site and I wanted to try each and every line. A friend was using their paper in their kit club and told me they were a local company. That was all I needed to hear! I showed up on their doorstep asking if I could please buy everything lol. One thing led to another and I became involved in their design team and then more. This last year has been so much fun for me, and while I did not plan on going back to work - Brandin convinced me. Webster's Pages is a family business and they have made me feel like one of the family! I am very excited and grateful for this opportunity, and looking forward to seeing what this new adventure brings.

Thanks so much for sharing in my excitement!

Feeling...Grateful

I was selected as Pubster of the Day today at Two Peas: link. It was such a nice surprise and I want to thank Molly and all my friends at Two Peas for their kind words. I also heard that Creating Keepsakes gave me a little shout out in the currrent magazine. I'm not even sure for what page but it is still nice! Best of all, we had blue skies today. After many days of rain and clouds this made me so happy!

Other things making me happy: Maryland made it into the NCAA tournament. I love March Madness! I also love St. Patrick's Day. When the kids were younger we loved watching their surprise at what those tricky leprechauns would do. Today they had fun with a green themed scavenger's hunt I set up for them. I tried to take pictures but they were running around so fast looking for clues I don't think I really got any good ones.

In some sad news I heard that the father of a childhood friend died unexpectedly. I haven't seen any of them since I was in elementary school, but I have very fond memories of them and was sad to hear this. They were extremely kind and generous to me in ways I never really grasped until I became an adult, and for that I am very grateful. Because I had been out of state and out of touch with my old friend for so many years, I never got a chance to say thank you to her parents for welcoming me in their home the way they did. His brother wrote a wonderful column about him. It has been over 30 years since I have seen them but I sent a note of condolence and hope they are all doing as well as possible in these circumstances.

I've been scrapping too. A few pages for some Scrapbooks Etc challenges.
